2015 Field Herping

2015 Field Herping Trips

In 2015, I didn’t manage to get out for many field herping trips. I made around 7-8 trips to Pearl River Wildlife Management Area in Pearl River, Louisiana and a few trips to Tensas National Wildlife Refuge and Big Lake Wildlife Management Area. I have seen my share of snakes this year, but definitely plan to make several more trips in April and May of 2016 to catch most of my target species at their prime. I made several trips where I either did not see anything or didn’t get a chance to photograph what I saw. I also had some backyard herping and miscellaneous herping experiences. If you know me, I am ALWAYS on the lookout for snakes and lizards….so you never know when I run off or take out my phone to snap some pictures. When I was processing my photos from my June 28th trip, I came across photos that I never posed from a May 9th trip. Both trips were my usual weekend drive to Pearl River Wildlife Management Area. Animals observed include American Alligator, broad-banded water snake, rough green snake, five-lined skink and eastern ribbon snake.

Living in South Louisiana you always see reptiles and amphibians in your back yard. In this case, it was two yards in Pearl River home backyards on two days. Animals observed include Gulf Coast box turtle, Mediterranean gecko, common ground skink, eastern ribbon snake, oak tree frog and green anole.
