Arizona Mountain Kingsnakes
(Lampropeltis pyromelana pyromelana)
The Arizona Mountain Kingsnake (lampropeltis pyromelana pyromelana) is naturally found throughout the center and southeastern mountain regions of Arizona. The tricolored snake typically reaches a size between 36 inches and 42 inches at adulthood. Arizona mountain kingsnakes make wonderful pet snakes due to their easygoing temperament and tendency to move slow and ‘hold on’ when handled.
In 2012, I decided to take a break from keeping reptiles after a few ‘failures’ in reptile keeping left me disappointed. I sold off all of my reptiles except for a pair of Arizona Mountain Kingsnakes that were given to me by my friend, Sean Bradley of Exotics by Nature. For the following five years, the only snakes that I kept were the pair of Arizona Mountain Kingsnakes. These two snakes are 8 years old making them the oldest in my reptile collection. They are also my favorites.
My current plans for these two are to put these two together to breed. I tried in 2016 and only ended up with three slugs. I would really like to continue on the genetics of these two since they have been such great pets, so hopefully we will have some hatchlings in the future.
